Who I am
Hello, my name is Era. A life-long expat and the voice behind Expat Mom Journal. The blog I started at the beginning of 2024 with the aim to journal our journey back to nature.
In early 2023 we moved to Switzerland. Soon after that, I miraculously became pregnant while I was still on maternity with my second. So it became clear that it was time to rewire my workaholic mind to a fully time Mommy one.

“Raising children on foreign land”

My tribe
We are a family of seven and cat. I live with my husband, three kids, my parents, and we have a cat.
We are multi-generational and multi-cultural. Seven of us were born in five different countries. Overall we have four various mother tongues.
Never a dull moment.
My Compass in Life

1000 Hours Outside
New year, new beginning. Taking as many activities outdoors as possible with the kids. It’s a new way of living (for me, in particular) so I learn from my kids, and we grow together.
Spending time in the nature and re-explore the ordinary wonders of life is my main focus. I feel passionate about spending as much time screen-free as possible. But I am not good at it, YET… Learning together.

Journal – Lover
One of the many thing I miss from the career I left behind, is recording and organising. Luckily these are all transferable skills and I try to polish my skills even in my current role of a Mum of three munchkins.
I am looking at ways to pass on the joy of journal / diary keeping / simple doodling / scribbling to my children. Pencils and notebooks are part of our everyday bags ready for inspiration to touch our souls.

Personal Development
I am a sucker for learning new things. I am good at the learning process but less of the doing process. I go around topics in circles over and over again. It is clear that change is required.
My focus is now going to be on ‘doing’ and ‘re-doing’. More action and less researching. Action speaks louder than words, so they say. Now its my time to bring it on the screen, so watch this space.
The Blog
This is a feel good blog, a journey journal. I share my personal thoughts and feelings about places I visited with my family. I speak to a friend in you and with my words I aim to inspire you to go and open your heart and soul to new experiences.
I yet to master writing skills, therefore this space serves as a training spot for me. My posts are written with love and with you in mind. If you happen to be a caretaker of tiny people, you may find some handy tips and tricks when visiting the places mentioned in this blog with young children.
